I was thinking about cutting a few "trenches" one thread height deep into my wood grips to inlay a 3 or 5 turn thread wrap.
I was thinking I'd probably just use polyurethane to finish the wood, and hopefully encapsulate the thread wraps with it as well. Has anyone tried anything like this? Will the poly eventually wear off exposing bare thread? Should I just use Flex Coat on the thread, and only poly the wood? Do you foresee any other issues that may come up? Thanks a lot everyone! Thickness for thickness poly urethane is tougher than any epoxy rod finish I've used. Re: Thread inlays on wooden grips.

The ones I have done have just been my normal routine of dipping in spar varnish Ron Weber Re: Thread inlays on wooden grips.

Dave,
When ever I make wood grips, I just put on two coats of thread finish on the wood and it is both lovely as well as long wearing. Be safe Re: Thread inlays on wooden grips.

I have done thread and wire inlays as you describe. As long as the inlay is not above the grip surface wear should not be a problem. Re: Thread inlays on wooden grips.
