My wife and I are heading back to cabo for our 10 year anniversary next fall. I would like to build a rod for this trip. When we honeymooned I was not a rod builder. We had a blast catching striped Marlin and Mahi mahi. This time I think it would be great to fish my own built rod. I need all the help I can get from blanks to guides and even reel seat and butt. I obviously do not fish there on a regular basis so any and all help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Have not fished there, but I did build a spinner several yrs ago to use in Costa Rica for casting lures back to teased up sails, as well as to feeding frenzy tuna. I used a Calstar grafighter 700ML. It was sweet for what I was doing.

My wife's favorite for Dorado is her Rainshadow SW967F, a 2 piece rod. It has done well on fish to 30#. I'm partial to the Rainshadow line of RCKJB's . And usually take a couple of models when we fish out of La Paz. Its not easy to pick a rod for that type of fishing, a 3# Sierra will hit the same bait as 40# Dorado or rooster fish. If travel rods are in the picture, the Rainshadow SWT's are great. Pargo to sailfish on those, but the sailfish take some time and that's not a good thing if you want C & R. My choice is the RCKJB, skinny, light and brutally strong.
