I ordered the RDS Dryer and the Dryer Clutch and it's supposed top arrive today.
If I want to do only the tip end of a 2 piece rod is there some way to reduce the size of the chuck opening to accommodate the smaller size of the tip section? Tom Re: RDS Dryer chuck

Try building up the diameter of small sections with tape then chuck it in the clutch. Re: RDS Dryer chuck

I bought a 1" cork stopper from the local hardware store and drilled a hole in it to match the blank. It fit very nicely into the drier chuck.

I just use an eva or cork grip and insert a piece of solid stock into the grip. Then, I will either taper the end of the solid stock before inserting it into the grip by holding a variable speed drill that is holding the spinning piece of solid stock against a belt sander to taper the end of the solid stock so that it fits inside the end of the blank, or if the piece of solid stock is too small, I will use masking tape to build up the end of the piece of solid stock so that the solid stock is a slip fit into the end of the blank. Then, insert the solid stock into the grip and insert the grip into the chuck and go dry.

I finally just went with the Fuji one's the work great and will hold just about any size. Plus if you you have a ferule wrap you can insert it and have it hold in front of the wrap Ron Weber Re: RDS Dryer chuck

P.S. Another very simple thing to do, is to take an old broken rod and cut it off so that you have about 6 inches of blank sticking out from the grip and reel seat. Then, either use the current blank, and insert it into the end of the new blank if smaller, or insert another piece of blank or solid stock or dowel into the end of the cut off rod and size down or up the solid stock that you have in the end of the cut off rod to match the end of the blank that you need to hold and turn. If you don't happen to have an old rod laying around anywhere that you can chop up, go to the good will, or salvation army and pick up two or three to use and to also use pieces of the old rod blanks when needed for repairing other rods, or to do practice wraps with. Generally you can find these rods for 50 cents to a couple of $$ at these stores. Be safe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
