I have a question of the selection of a 4 pc travel fly rod. My customer is wanting a 4pc, 5wt, fast action rod. Built alot of 2pc rods but no 4 or 5 pc rods. Can anyone give me some good advice on which blanks I could choose from? My customer is on a budget and I am well aware of most high end rods such as Thomas & Thomas, Sage, ect. I just don't have the experiance to know which 4pc blank might work best.

Thanks, Tom

If he will accept a medium-fast rod, try the Tiger Eye or PacBay Tradition blanks. Only $35 or so.

If he insists on fast action the St Croix IV 5# travel rod falls in between the Sage and the PacBay Tradition for price and makes a good rod.

Tom,

We have Five Rivers 5 and 6pc blanks in medium fast to fast actions for about half the price of most multi-piece blanks.

If these are similar in performance to the Dan River V blanks they are a real bargain and well worth considering.

I'd go with the five rivers blanks..... little more expensive than the tiger eye or pac bay traditional, but worth double what they cost! You won't be disappointed.
