I have a rod for a tough customer (my 11 yr old son) that the last running guide before the tip somehow got out of line and I didn't realize it! How can i take it off and redo it since i already put my finish on? Elementary question but i haven't experienced this yet!!! I am sure it would fish but we did some wrap work, trim and color coordinated this whole rig and I don't want to show anyone the way it is right now!

Not to difficult. Heat the epoxy then gently and carefully slice it with an xacto knife or razor blade. The epoxy should now just peal off. Then just cut the wrappings off if they aren't already off.

I would add to not try to take off the "ends" of the wrap epoxy, just remove the length of the wrap. The ends, after you wrap the new guide on will blend fine with the new epoxy. If you try to remove it, you may nick the blank or make some other mess that doesn't need to happen.

Crisis averted!!! It came right off with a just a little bit of heat and xacto knife! Very easy clean removal, cleaned up a little with some rubbing alcohol and actually already have the new wrap in place and it looks tons better!!! Thanks for the advice John! I knew it was easy just wasn't sure how much to do!

I expect that you did this, but when you use the exacto knife or razor to cut the thread, cut it on the guide foot. That way, if the knife or razor slips, you are on the metal foot of the guide and not slicing into the rod blank.

Use care if you ever paint a blank. I did one and used automotive clear coat. Real nice solid finish. I ended up wrapping the butt slightly off because it was a 2 piece rod and the pieces were a bit misaligned. The paint came off with the guide. I was able to sand down the area and repaint and clear coat, but it is not level there. I have two butts for the rod because one of the tip sections broke. I ended up ordering a whole new blank and now that one is a backup butt section. Unfortunately I have EVA on the new one. I prefer cork on light rods, but gets expensive.
