Has anyone experienced a guide failure with Recoil NiTi guides ?
I ran the search and found no results. Perhaps I didn't choose the correct phrase. I've been using the guides for 10+ years and other than noise and cost have not had an issue. Definitely never had a failure. This is, however, a limited observation and would appreciate additional feedback. Thanks Re: Guide failure

I have seen lots and lots of rods with these guides, and I personally know of no failures with these guides. I am sure that there have been a few - with the number of rods built with these guides, but I am guessing that the number of failures has been quite small.

Eugene,
I saw a bit of breakage when they first came out due to people showing everyone how indestructible they were. Re: Guide failure

Spencer,
That's pretty funny. Would like to have seen the looks on the face of the guy demonstrating the un-breakable guide. This is, however, quite beyond their intended use. Has anyone experienced any grooving ? This is imaginable, but no idea over what period of time. Re: Guide failure

A guide who guides about 280 days a years had a tip top groove, changed to a Fuji Ti/SiC tip top and I haven't seen him since. It was an early G Loomis GLX when they used the REC tip top, soon after they started using a Fuji Ti/SiC tip top I believe. 2 years to groove tip top, many years since I fixed the rod.
I chalked it up to normal wear and tear since the material is pretty soft, close to uncoated stainless I'm told. Re: Guide failure

I expected more input.
Simple construction, available in single or double foot, light weight, corrosion resistant, extremely durable (with the exceptions noted above). Certainly a first choice for any top line build. Almost the perfect guide. I'm seeing more factory builds using them now. Gene Re: Guide failure

Yes. The same guy broke one twice within the first month because he kept playing with them. The last time I threatened to wrap his entire rod in double foot stainless #10's. That cured the problem. Re: Guide failure

I was always taught, " You can't fix STUPID "
There seems to be an abundant supply of "fools" for any purpose. Did you explain it was a fishing rod, not a musical instrument ? Why would you purchase a custom built fishing rod and deliberately break it ? Foolish. More money then common sense. Gene Re: Guide failure
