Any tips for keeping 1, 2 and 3 turn inlays straight and even?

I'm new here, and a hacker at rod building, but am always trying to get better. Truthfully, I'm inspired by some of the masterful guide wraps in the gallery. Lately I've been practicing adding a couple of 1,2,or 3 turn contrasting color inlay bands, but am having a tough time getting the bands to be perfectly parallel to each other and evenly packed so they are the same width. Is there any trick to this, or is it just old fashioned work with the burnishing tool?. I did try to search older threads for information, but didn't seem to have much luck. Thanks in advance for any help, tips or tricks you could provide.

At the 5:25 mark you can see a trick that works pretty well. You'll have to adjust the amount of pressure used, but it'll do the trick once you get it dialed in.

Thanks for the link, Tom. His advice on twisting the thread before trimming is one I hadn't considered, either.
