Guide problems.

Has anyone else had any problems with the duralite/nanolite micro guides breaking at the foot? They seem to bend very easy then break off when they are straightened out. Thinking about switching to the Artus heavy duty guides or go Fuji kbag or blog.

David,
This will happen with any guide if bent often enough.

Easy to say, but to avoid the problem, don't bend the guides.

Be safe

Yea I say the same thing but just trying to get a guide that will handle abuse a little better.

If abuse/flexing is an issue, you may wish to move to double foot guides. If you're breaking double foot guides, then some better rod handling procedures may be in order.

Obviously, if the rod is simply undergoing some really rough handling, do what you have to do regarding guide size and type.

A lot of folks use the somewhat expensive recoil guide for this situation. Bends but normally does not break.

The only ones I have had break are due to abuse. You can not bend them flush with the blank and straighten them but so many times. The Artus HD micros are beasts! I have yet to have anyone bend one of them.

David;
There is a specific reason/cause for those failures.
The link below was an evaluation I did back in 2010 after about 6 months use, concerning Batson's new ALP's guides. In that evaluation I addressed a specific issue I saw in one manufacturer's new designs to help better secure their guides to blanks, that was going to become the problem you are dealing with.

To date, from that first evaluation till now. I've yet to have an ALPS guide fail in any fashion or break off at the neck. It may happen one day and may have happened to someone else, but so far, not my experience.

Two things have changed since that post that other's may say or think taints my opinion.
1 Mr. Batson has as of this year taken me out to breakfast and dinner and
2. They now consider me part of their pro staff.

But at the time of the writing of that evaluation it was not so.
