Hello everyone
So I've been building rods on and off for a couple years now. I've built mostly for myself and friends of mine. But I have a couple blanks that I want to build to sell. They're a bit heavy for any fishing I do out here in Arizona. I know a lot of west coast guys use these kind of rods for yo-yo fishing and light rail rods. The 2 blanks I have are Rainshadow RCJB84XH 40-80. I know how to build the rods but I'm not sure what guys that fish these like for components. Do y'all prefer gimbals or rubber butt caps? Cord wrapped butt sections with foam or cork grips or just cord wrap all the way up. Conventional or spiral wrapped guides. Things like that are stuff I'm not to familiar with when building rods for specific jobs. Any help would be greatly appreciated Re: New Build Advice

Go to the guide spacing/rod building forum at the Batson/Rainshadow site and ask for a recipe. Re: New Build Advice

I find a buyer first and build to his specs. Once you build it it isn"t "custom"anymore. Lacking that I sell the raw blanks. Better to sell a $60 blank for $40 than invest another $60 in it and a few hours of labor only to loose even more.
But if you are determined to go it your way I'd start with what Spencer suggested. I have found Batson's recipes to be quite good if you desire a "normal" looking rod. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: New Build Advice

A lot of people look at Built Rods and then ask builders how much for the same thing !!!!! Really Can you get your parts at such a discount like a company can I don't buy 2 - 5000 seats for a @#$%& of a discount

Bill,
When folks ask me the same question, I generally reply that the rod will cost about 3X as much as the factory rod for the exact reason that you mention. Be safe Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
