This is the 3rd winter of my rod building hobby, this winter I'm attempting fade decorative wraps and thought I'd customize the carriage for my power wrapper. I purchased a crb hand wrapper and modified it to accept 6 spools of thread, my idea is that instead of constantly moving the rod supports for the stock carriage as I move down the rod, I just move the whole wrapper platform over around the supports, seems to work so far. The project in the works is to put 1 or 2 electro magnets on the base of the platform and have a steel track below to secure it in position, the electric will have a quick release plug. Looking for any comments, I'm in northern Ontario and don't have much input.

Agreed, I use my fingers to guide the thread as well, but with this platform I have the 5 or so different threads available with some tension, and as I proceed with the guide wraps down the blank I'm not moving the supports all the time and readjusting the blank's level.

Good idea and it would seem to work well.

A different approach is to have your threads and thread stands simply on the bench behind your rod wrapper base. That way, there is nothing on the wrapper base, rod supports etc. that ever have to be moved when the thread is moved.

Always interesting to see how other folks solve their own unique problems.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm limited to by space to moving my wrapper, this way seems to work for now. Since I'm attempting my first fades I thought I would make my own respooler for the larger spools, got the idea from a previous post about the crayola wrapper, cost me about $30 and works just fine.
