I'm thinking about trying Madeira thread. I went to their website and was totally overwhelmed. They list several different thread types, rayon, polyneon, frosted matt, metallics and even fire resistant thread. There appears to be 2 main sizes, #60 and #40 although there are some that come in #35, #30, & #20. My question is , "what type and size is generally used for rod wrapping. Any info from those that use Madeira would be greatly appreciated.

I did a quick search on the forum but didn't find any threads that identify the type and weight of Madeira thread normally used for wrapping rods.

I would suggest you use only the Polyneon #40. It's a little finer than size "A". Then depending on what you are doing you can try #60 or even the #75 but stay with Polyneon. The thread gets thinner as the number gets higher. The metallic are good also. Just remember you need to use color preserver on them .

I agree with Jim's comments. The #40 Polyneon works really well.
