Metallic under wrap

I am building a travel rod for sailfish, dorado, that type of thing.

Doing an under wrap with silver metallic under wrap.

Not sure if I am going to use Metallic blue or color fast blue over the top.

Would you you use a Cp or an epoxy on the under wrap before wrapping the guides?

Thanks, Doug

See you on the water, Doug

I've coated under wraps two ways. I always use metallic under wraps so I coat with three coats of perma gloss then place guides and wrap or I do a coat of perma gloss then a coat of epoxy then wrap guides. I avoid metallic blue thread due to fading issues. Good luck MH

I'm no expert, but from what I've been able to gather, metallic thread is not well suited for guide wraps. Better for undereraps, trim or inlays.

why? I have only built 3 rods now but I used metallic only on one of the builds. Should I be worried?

I can't speak for all brands, but I have used metallic for guide wraps on several rods, the oldest having been built in 2005, and I have not had any issues. I used Gudebrod, and the rods range from a 7 weight fly rod to med heavy bass rods.

Take care,

Chris
