Break repair under micro guide

I have a rod a client would like me to repair, but I don't know how it will work out. The break is about 4" down the rod but directly under the size 3 micro. Repairing the blank is no big deal but the guide will now be lifted up by the thickness of the oversleeve. I have done this before, but not with micros. I am just wondering how to do this repair and how it will affect casting.

Dick,
Do the repair as you repair any rod with an inner sleeve and an outer sleeve. Then tie the micro back on the rod and go fishing.

Be safe

Roger, you use both inner and outer sleeves for a repair near the tip? Does that not make a flat area in the bend of the blank under load?

Use the outer sleeve (don't need the inner), mount the guide and test cast it. If you find something doesn't seem to be working, you may have to respace/resize the guides so one isn't on the repair area and go from there.

Yeah I wasn't going to use an inner sleeve as the internal diameter is very small. Thanks for the input.

Michael,
I try to use fiberglass sections for the repair work in order to minimize getting too stiff.

If I am repairing a tip section with a very small inner diameter, I usually use an appropriate sized piece of piano wire. I don't like to run the risk of having the repair section crush, and that is why I generally use an inner sleeve as well as an outer sleeve.

But, lots of ways to take care of repairs. Just find the system that works well for you and go with it.

Be safe
