Narrowed my search down to a couple different fly blanks. Each one of them that meets my criteria are 7 foot. I would like to add an extension to one of the pieces and make the rod closer to 7' 6" or 7' 9". Has anyone ever done this and can anyone recommend the maximum length I can extend it without having an effect on the castability? Obviously I would put the extension under the seat and handle. Thanks Re: Adding length to Fly Blank

The easiest and probably the best way is to find a section of rod blank that fits the taper of the butt and fit it as a sleeve. Epoxy in place and build your handle and reel seat over it. An alternative method is to find a piece of blank that fits the ID of the butt and epoxy it in place. Re: Adding length to Fly Blank

Just be aware that extending the blank will make the overall finished rod faster action.Whether that will affect the "castability" will depend on you and your experience with a fly rod. Re: Adding length to Fly Blank
