Just a thought anyone use ribbon to speed up the process of butt wrapping. I know there is a article about it in rod maker mag unfortunately I have not got a sub yet. I under wrapped with thread and am putting a butt wrap on top of that any tips or tricks if I use ribbon??

There have been various attempts to speed up the process. Gudebrod once marketed a product called "Butt Wind" and there have been sorts of Chinese Finger Trap concoctions that did the job very quickly. Most did not provide quite the same appearance but to the untrained eye it's debatable if it matters. One of the sad parts of custom rod building, is that often the most intricate and well done cross wraps are assumed, by the fishing public, to be some nothing more than sort of tape or sleeve applied to the rod.

One thing is for sure - you are entirely free to experiment with ribbon, etc., and just might come up with the next trend in decorative cross wrapping.
