Hello all. I apologize for making my first post a question.

I'm embarking on my first rod build, a split grip spinning rod. In the split area, I will be adding a tiger wrap and i'm trying to figure out how to lay it out so that the final product appears more red, than gray.

I've chosen PacBay Cherry Red, and GM Gray as my color combo for this rod.

My hunch, from all the research that I've done, is that if I do my base layer in red/gray, and make the gray my sacrificial thread on the top layer, it will appear more on the red side. Correct?

Would it be better to do two reds and one gray on the bottom, and one red and two sacrificial grays on the top?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you want just red, I'd use the cherry red and a silver metallic on the base and the cherry red/ sacrificial on top. I think the red/gray on bottom with red on top will darken the red quite a bit especially if you used gray on top as you mentioned.

Try it on a piece of scrap to find out what it will really look like in the end. For testing I do the normal wrapping with 2 coats color preserver dried with a hair dryer and use a 5 min epoxy to speed up drying times.

The wrap will be the colour of the top thread.
You could use silver and gray on the bottom. Red and gray might not be a high enough contrast for a good Tiger effect.
I would use silver and black then do some red and gray bands to start and end the Tiger.
These bands can be added after the wrap is finished and will cover the ends of the Tiger.
The finish will blend it all together.
