I love my calstar gx-7 for porgy seabass fishing! It has its limits though with lead it can hold which I feel is about 8 oz. now it seems fish are going deeper and more current doesn't always allow for 8oz. I was wondering if anyone has cut a gx-8 to hold 10oz? Re: Calstar gx-8

No not that blank but you can use the existing guides on the rod you use to figure out how much to cut. Start at the first tip guide and hang 10-12oz off it then move to the next one down and do the same. You can tape guides between the mounted guides to figure out the sweet spot. If you do this cut little by little always check to make sure a tip top fits properly on the sweet spot. I hope this helps. You should try to contact Capt Neil Falkner. He's very experienced with tipping rods for bottom fishing. Good luck, MH Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
