Hey all,
Doing a rebuild of my girlfriends old fly rods... I'm just about done stripping the guides and want to shine them up a bit. I was thinking steel wool might do the trick, any other suggestions? Thanks! Re: Shine up Fly Guides

It depends on what they're coated with. Some snake guides were never shiny to begin with. Those with chrome plating may have lost their luster or been worn through. About all you can do is try one and see what your results are. Or, simply buy new ones to match. Snake guides are generally very inexpensive.

I've used a Dremel with a small cone shaped buffing wheel and some compound. But unless those are the only guide like that in the world you are better off just buying new. less hassle and you are sure you won't have issues with them in the future.
