EVA sheet Material density question

In looking for the different colors of EVA available I stumbled across hobbylobby. They carry sheets of eva material in different thicknesses. Is there any particular difference in density of eva material that one should be aware of? Anything special to say Mudholes EVA sheets compared to something you'd get from amazon or the like. Just trying to expand the color options. Re: EVA sheet Material density question

Softer EVAs will feel spongy in the hand. Firmer EVAs are more suitable for grips. If it feels noticeably softer than what a grip should feel like, it won't stiffen when laminated into blocks... I'd think you'd have to have a solid cork or rigid foam core and then apply the softer EVA in a single thickness overlay to end up with a reasonable result. Even then, it might still feel "odd"
I haven't checked the Hobby Lobby stuff, maybe someone else knows. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/29/2015 04:03PM by John E Powell. Re: EVA sheet Material density question

Most all of the sheet stuff is about 60 to 65 Durometer hardness. About the same as many EVA grips but not as firm as some of the better stuff out there.

Thanks guys that is my larger concern. I see on hobbylobby and even @#$%& that there are companies selling sheet stock at great prices but I wasn't sure of the density compared to say a product marketed by rod building supply houses. Re: EVA sheet Material density question

I think they tend to be pretty much the same product, but you could always inquire with the rod component suppliers to see if they source it from a different place.

Thanks again. I picked up a sheet and block from each source and we shall see the difference Re: EVA sheet Material density question

Andy,
Years ago I purchase the assorted colors offered by Mudhole to build a grip with a checkerboard cutting jig for the wife of a friend. I was totally frustrated by the colored layers as it would not sand the same as EVA foam. It had a very rubbery texture to it and while it didn't sand very well the adjacent EVA foam sanded as expected leaving an uneven result. 'drove me crazy!
