Finishing and color preserver question

Hi, so I put the first finishing coat on my fly rod and once dried I noticed some high finish build spots (drying motor stopped by accident). Not too hard to fix so I went ahead and cut off the excess finish to level it out. Problem is one of the spot is where I was planning to put a feather inlay. So my question is, if I put a feather and color preserver on the spot I cut off, which has that dull look, will the color preserver preserve that spot and prevent the next coat of finish to fill in that spot? I really don't want to wait for another coat of finish but if I have too then I will. Thanks !! Re: Finishing and color preserver question

I would go ahead, bite the bullet & put on a new layer of epoxy. Re: Finishing and color preserver question

Sid,
In my experience, the color preserver has wet out the epoxy and returned the shine, just like another coat of epoxy would have. Try it on a scrap rod: scuff a wrap, and then put some color preserver over it. Different types of color preserver may produce slightly different results. Take care, Chris Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
