I'm just starting out and this will be my first casting rod to build. I'm looking to use this for topwater and plastics in the saltwater inshore reds and trouts.
I have been looking at the MHX SJ812 , Phenix MX-69ML-B or the Rainshadow IMMP70ML Blanks I’m not sure what Guides or Casting reel seat to pair with these choices? Is a 1 piece or 2 piece reel seat better for a beginner? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/16/2015 02:45PM by Daryl Stehling. Re: Beginner Rod Builder

Is this your very first build? If it is I personally would suggest looking at Mudhole's CRB blanks/kits. When it comes to components, everyone will be willing to give you suggestions, but you will find more out by researching the forum and the library on this site. Re: Beginner Rod Builder

I second the CRB kits. I like using the fuji alconite guides on my personal rods. Enjoy the addiction :) Re: Beginner Rod Builder

Although thank you for wanting a RainShadow Immortal rod blank, this would be a great build for you. I would suggest building on a cheaper blank to get used to it. Many of our customers love these 2 models that will give you similar properties as the Immortal Popping blank.
