Hey guys so I am building a Carolina Rig rod and I want to try out a company that I have not yet built on. I am looking at either Point Blank or Phenix. So pretty much all the time I will be throwing 1/2oz weights and my leaders range from 1-5ft for the most part. I would like a rod in the 7-7'6 range, somewhere around 7'3 would be perfect. I like a rod with a lot of backbone but a soft tip when I throw a c-rig. Right now I am using a 7ft MH mid mod MHX and the action of the blank is perfect, I just want to play around with some other blanks as well so I can have two c-rigs tied on all the time. What would you recommend? Thanks!
I also will be using 20lb braid. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/07/2015 10:38PM by Cameron Johnson. Re: Blank Suggestion for Carolina Rig Rod

By "soft tip" do you mean an extra fast action, or just a blank that loads nicely in the upper portion of the blank, before transitioning into a powerful back bone? If it's the latter description, then I'd suggest the Immortal IMMC72MH. I just completed a build on that blank about a month ago with the intended purpose of the rod being a Carolina rig / deeper water football jig / flipping and pitching rod.
It's an awesome flipping and pitching rod, and last week it proved to be just as good for Carolina rigging. Since you mentioned using 20# braid for your main line (I use 20# fluorocarbon) I'd still go with a fast action blank, but I'd go with one a little less powerful than the above mentioned blank. One like the Immortal IMMC72M. The reason I would suggest a less powerful blank for use with braid, is because when you hook at fish a good distance from the boat, braid's lack of stretch makes it easier for the fish to put slack in your line. A less powerful blank that bends more deeply into the butt will help keep the line tight, and give you a better chance of landing the fish. Especially if you're fishing for fish like smallmouth, that jump a lot. Others may have different opinions, but at least for me, unless you have a rod with the right characteristics, long lines and braid just don't mix when it comes to landing bass. I haven't built on the IMMC72M as of yet (but I will be future) so I can't honestly say how it performs. But I see no reason that it wouldn't perform just as well as the IMMC72MH. If that's the case then it will blow you away with how good it is. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 08/08/2015 06:20AM by David Baylor. Re: Blank Suggestion for Carolina Rig Rod

Thank you for the reply. I have some immortal blanks and I love them. I am interested right now in trying out phenix or point blank. I would love some feedback on what blank from point blank would be a good choice. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
