Hey guys so a week or two ago I was asking about Alps Hard Aluminum Oxide guide rings and was told that they would hold up to braid fine. One thing I forgot to mention however is that these guides would be used on a cranking rod. I would be throwing things like the strike king 8xd which is 1.3oz and dives to 20ft. This is a pretty hard pulling crankbait. On a worm rod or something like that I wouldnt be worried about the braid since just reeling in the worm would not put that much pressure on it, but will these guides still be ok for deeper diving crankbaits since that will put a lot more constant pressure on the guides every cast? Thanks so much! Re: Alps Hard Aluminum Oxide Guide Material and Braid

Those guides and material have long history of surviving under much more strenuous conditions than your subjecting them to. Re: Alps Hard Aluminum Oxide Guide Material and Braid

Have been using the ALPS guides on 7-6 and 8" cranking rods since they came out. Throwing Mann's 20 and 30+'s, Depps, Striking King, and Bomber deep crankers, the New 10X's and to date have not had the first ring show signs of wear, not a single ring crack, not a single ring pop out of its frame, and no frame failures.
I hope that is clear enough Re: Alps Hard Aluminum Oxide Guide Material and Braid

I think the days of ring grooving due to braided line use is pretty much over if you stick with good quality name brand guides. ALPs is a good brand and hard running crankers on braid isn't going to affect them in the least even after many years. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
