Hi there,
I'm interested in some let's say "legal" aspects of building rods in Canada . I want to know if are there any special requirements for building rods in Canada or not. Is rod building recognized officially as a profession or occupation? Does one needs to take part at any course or seminar to be allowed to practice it? Is any kind of degree needed or something similar ? These are just a few questions to which I'm looking for an answer and I will appreciate any help from Canadian rod builders or other people holding some informations in this matter . Links to Canadian net pages which might contain some information on the subject will also help . I'm thinking moving into Canada and wish to know if I can build rods there for a living or just as a hobby and what should I do to be allowed to do it (such as school, job permit, guild recognition and stuff like that) Thank you in advance for your replies . kingofbeasts custom rods Edited 1 time(s). You would probably be best off by contacting the provincial government in whatever province you plan to move to and ask them. Re: Rod building in Canada

You will require to register for a Vendors permit in the Prov. that you move to. You do not need any certification to operate as a rod-builder. I do not believe that we are recognized as an occupation so from an immigration point of view that doesn't help. There are very few people in Canada that would even know of the Guild let alone know that there is certification from them so that is a moot point.
You will need to collect HST/GST tax and get a number if you are planning on doing more then 30 thousand per year. You do understand that there is only 35 million of us in the whole country so to make a living off of rod building maybe a challenge. Rolly Beenen Rovic Custom Rods Re: Rod building in Canada

If you are planning on working out of your house(official business address), check the local zoning bylaws to ensure that it is allowed. If not an additional expense may be incurred for a mail box. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: Rod building in Canada

Thank you all for your replies, I will check out the local regulations for Ottawa- Gatineau area in this matter. If there are any other thoughts on this please feel free to express them because any advice will help.
My immigration will be a matter of family reunion so now I am considering my options and arguments for staying here (and end a relation) or going there (and start from scratch). Since my current working domain is Law and there is a different Law system than here (which means studying allover again ) I was thinking if I can at least use my hobby as a way of living for the beginning . kingofbeasts custom rods Re: Rod building in Canada
