Recently picked up a flexcoat universal slip clutch to use in a drill jig. I was going to use it to turn a rod blank at a faster rpm for finish application but what I've noticed is that after inserting the rear grip into the clutch and turning everything on the rod isn't centered and wobbles on the hand wrapper carriage. I'm new to building so any help in centering the blank with rear grip installed would be helpful. Re: flex coat universal slipless chuck and wobble

Your grip may be the culprit. Try inserting a dowel rod into the blank butt and chucking onto that. You'll want to shim it appropriately with tape to match the taper of the inside of the blank. This will help it run more true.

I would suspect that the center height of the blank in the chuck and your support are not equal. Measure the height of the center of the blank at the chuck and then at the support, if not equal you will get a lot of what you call wobble. Make sure the support is also perfectly aligned with the chuck, that too can cause a problem. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/04/2015 05:51PM by Randolph Ruwe. Adam,
In addition to the suggestions above, perhaps the rubber in the slip chuck is not centered. You might check that as well. Don Campbell don@sensorfishingrods.com Re: flex coat universal slipless chuck and wobble

I have the complete Flexcoat finishing machine and have absolutely no issues with it being centered with no wobble. Ron Weber Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
