Single Foot Fly Guides - Spinning Rod?

I've been building quite a few rods using Recoil guides using their standard spinning rod guides with the double loop for runners. Has anyone tried making a spinning rod with the fly guide with a single loop? Does it even make sense to try? I can't imagine you'd save much weight when using recoil guides but it might he interesting to try it on cheaper builds with regular SS fly guides as runners. I know one of the more prominent builders in my area uses them on his top line rod to keep the weight down.

I should add that I use single foot fly guides, both SS and Recoil, on all my ice rods.

Nate,

If the guy is selling rods has a good rep and the fly guide rods aren't coming back, that should tell you what you need to know. It never hurts to tinker and convince yourself. Give it a try. It's crossed my mind before, but I've never given it a try. There really isn't any reason that it wouldn't work for most lighter applications (probably even heavier applications than you might expect). Personally, I would use either a Minima or ceramic tip rather than a wire fly tip with them.

Let us know how it works out if you give them a go!

Joe

I use them all the time on my ice rods but never tried on longer spinning rods.

I have used the old PacBay single foot loop fly rod guides as runners on UL spinning rods. They work fine and the Recoils will too. Only reason I stopped was because the Minimas have the full ring with very little extra weight.

Recoils shine in the salt.
