Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

Over the weekend I put my first tour star grip on. The grip went on a batson IMMP70M blank and it needed a fair amount of building up with tape. I built up several wraps along the length, epoxied everything and it seemed to have worked well. Problem I noticed after the fact was that upon inspection on the profile you could see slight ridges where the tape arbors are. I didn't dare run straight tape down the length of blank in fear that it wouldn't allow the epoxy to bond well. What advice could you guys give on when your needing to build up a blank to fit the grip. Should I have not left gaps between the tape like you do on reel seats?
Thanks Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

Maybe this is a good time to use the dubble sided tape ??
Don't know the grips but can you get a smaller ID hole and ream it out Bill - willierods.com Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

Use the mesh drywall tape. It will allow support along the whole length. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

Bill I would have needed several layers of double sided tape. I have some for golf grip installation but I was again concerned that the epoxy would bond the tape and grip but not bond to the blank and eventually the tape stickiness would wear off.
It looks like the ID of the 9.5 tour star grip is 13mm and the batson blank OD at the butt is 11.176mm. You can't really feel the humps unless you know they are there. I just wanted to make sure I bonded the grip properly. Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

I wonder if you made the tape so the grip was - Tight - and too fare apart I use tape on eva all the time when needed and maybe those grips are real soft ?? That does not seem to be a large space Bill - willierods.com Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

The stuff I get is white, but yes it is lightly sticky. I try and fill the weave with epoxy as I wrap the tape around the blank. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

Thanks guys. the tape wasn't so tight i couldn't slide the grip about 3-4 inches onto the blank tail. after that thought the friction from the tape and grip were to to much. Re: Best build up method under Tour star Grip?

When I make tape arbors I make the LAST one first - but - when I put the grip on I turn it in the direction the tape was put on - to see how tight it fits Does not have to be tight As to not turn the grip so it pushes the end of the tape or turns against the end of the tape This rolls the end up and will give you @#$%& to get the grip off Putting a piece of tape on the grip with an arrow showing the dirrection to turn the grip reminds me of the dirrection to turn
Just wrap all arbors in the same Direction Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
