finish over old epoxy

I have a friend that brought me a rod to have the tip replaced. Once I got the rod, I noticed the epoxy was severely discolored and it was obvious that the rod had a ton of uv exposure and a great deal of use on it. I lightly coated over the existing wraps and had to give it back that night.

Do you think the new epoxy will still stay clear or will the yellow garbage that was on the rod will reappear. Yes, I know that I should have rewrapped it, but I didn't have the time to get it done before I had to give it back.

Thanks,
Tom

The existing finish will remain yellowed, and show through your new clear finish. The new finish will also yellow over time. Just the nature of the beast where epoxies are concerned.

sort of thought that might happen. Luckily this fellow is extremely easy going and really has no opinion of it either way.

Thanks Tom,

Tom
