Hello, I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference between hotshot, spinjig and popping blanks? I'm a little confused on how each differs. Also any differences between spinning and casting blanks? Thanks. Re: Blank types

Sid;
if you click on the "GLOSSARY" button above you will find definitions for most of what you are asking Re: Blank types

Each type will have its own characteristics, and could vary significantly from manufacturer to manufacturer.
I'm yet to build on a HS blank, but here is a bit what I know from what I've dug up on them in the past. HS blanks tend to have fast or extra fast actions, very limber tips and a good bit of power in the butt. I would look toward something like a HS9000 blank if I'm targeting bigger fish with light line and lures. If I start pursuing the jigworm and midwest finesse techniques seriously, an HS blank will be high on the list of candidates for a build. Spin jig rods tend to have very fast actions with some power in the butt, but not the power of a mag bass blank, and tend to be a bit forgiving in the mid section. They can make great general purpose rods for lighter applications, such as swimming grubs, and such. Popping blanks tend to have a moderate fast action (at least the ones I've built on). Many freshwater guys use them for crankbait rods and they can be good live bait rods as well. For a given line/lure rating, the popping blanks tend to have less lifting power than the above types of blank. Joe Re: Blank types

All of the Hot Shot blanks I have made were for river fishing for steelhead and salmon. My favorite was an 8'' 4" Lamiglas blank with 2 tips one a little more powerful than the lighter tip. Two of my friends and had been drifting the river for several hour and anchored near the bank over a fairly deep hole to have lunch. I left my hot shot in the water about 30 feet behind the boat when a 20# steelhead hit it. What a hoot!!Nicest one I have ever caught.
This particular blank has a butt section that is 20"s shorter than the two tip sections. A lot of power in the butt and a lot of sensitivity in the tip sections. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/29/2015 05:54PM by Randolph Ruwe. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
