I know this question has been asked dozen of times . Please forgive me for asking again . Done a search, but didn't get what I 'm looking for . Keep in mind I'm just a hobby rod builder .. My friend brought me a 6 1/2 ft med-hev rod , he want me to do a split rear grip with cord . It's #18 nylon cord , multi color .. from Hobby Lobby .he wants me to put epoxy on the cord . My question is this wise . or should I just but a coat or two of c/p ? Now as for the under wrap , what size thread is used for the under wrap, and how much thread do you leave at the end of the guide foot ? Also here again do you c/p the under wrap before you wrap the guides ? again I apologize if this a dead horse question , never was asked to do one before , so never paid much attention on topic about it ..
Thank you , and all replies are appreciated Regards : Don @ Hobby Rods : <<<<DON>>>> Fort Myers Fla. Re: Cord wrap / underwrap ??

I would use some type of exterior urethane for the cord coating.
For an underwrap I'd go no heavier than size A thread. 00 if you can get it in the color you need. ............... Re: Cord wrap / underwrap ??

You can add some bling by using size A metallic thread as your underwrap.
Apply your cord as you would do in building a space or tiger wrap. Start with about 4 turns of cord before adding your sacrificial cord. Finish the cord wrap with about 4 turns and then remove the sacrificial cord. If desired, you can let the metallic show at each end of your cord wrap. The sacrificial cord does not need to be the same diameter as your cord wrap. Changing the diameter of the sacrificial cord will vary the amount of metallic underwrap visible and the amount of grip of the finished cord wrap. Test the cord provided for oil and if possible do not use CP. (I am one of those anti CP people.) Fully saturate the cord with epoxy. Add coats of epoxy to obtain the amount of grip/texture desired for the cord wrap. You may want to try some short length test wraps to determine what works best for you. Depending on the type of use, an overcoat of urethane may be recommended. Additional sources of cord are available from Atwood Rope Mfg. They have a great variety. I do have some of their Nano cord. However, it lays flat and I cannot recommend it for space wraps. I do not know the characteristics of their Micro cord and it may be worth a call. Atwood cord is sold locally for use as butt wrap.
