Do the various distributors and manufacturers (I.e. St. Croix, Batson, Anglers Resource, Recoil, etc...) offer wholesale pricing? If so, are the minimums really high? I am a small builder and have accounts with a couple retailers which it has worked out good so far but I am wondering if going direct to the source would possibly provide better pricing. I could call each one but thought the experts here might already have the answer. Re: Distributor/Manufacturer Wholesale Acccounts

Most require significant buy-ins and do not have the infrastructure to deal with smaller wholesale accounts.
You can always inquire directly, but in most cases the average custom builder, even those who qualify for wholesale pricing, will receive lower pricing from a distributor than from the manufacturer. .............. Re: Distributor/Manufacturer Wholesale Acccounts

Many also require that one carry a representative inventory of their lines. They cannot afford to be "cherry picked" and thus offend their primary dealers. Doubt very much if you will find any of the "majors" interested in small dealers! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/21/2015 06:57PM by Phil Erickson. Re: Distributor/Manufacturer Wholesale Acccounts

Nate,
Several times at trade shows I had discussed with Bill Batson and / or his staff the costs of buying directly from Batson Enterprises. I was told the "buy in costs $1,500 and that would provide me a 40% discount from retail pricing. We did not discuss the makeup of the initial buy in product line. I would imagine, as mentioned above, you would not been given total discretion of the blanks and components provided with the initial buy in. that sounds about right for a wholesale account from the maker the percentage can change a lot , they don't have the manpower to handle small orders an don't want to get into
that part of sales , any wholesaler can sell 400 rods an make more money in there pocket then sell 400 rods in small lots say 2 to 4 rod s to there customers , less manpower in the process from office to the floor worker , at least it was that way when I was selling wholesale . a few years back , [ not fishing rods, tools] same Idea , William Sidney AK Re: Distributor/Manufacturer Wholesale Acccounts
