I am building a MHX SJ721 for myself since my other one A factory G. Loomis was stolen from my pickup.
I will most likely cut a few inches off the butt to get the exact action I want. I will put a Shimano Symetre 1500 reel on this setup. I was thinking I was going to go with the Fugi K guides and use the concept system. Can anyone reccomend a Guide train to get me the most out of this rod? Thanks, Mike Re: MHX SJ721 Guide Train ?

I've been using 16H / 8H / 5.5H / 5.5j.......... for braid and 20H / 10H ...... for light mono both on a 3000 or smaller reel. I use the Microwave set as well with good results and they're a no- brainer setup. Re: MHX SJ721 Guide Train ?

I will be changing from braid to mono sometimes often but I will primarily be using mono on this rod due to it's extra fast tip and I use this rod for snap jigging trout and casting for crappies some. I change to braid for perch.
Could I get away with going down to 4.5 running guides? I generally will be using 6 lb test suffix elite line. Re: MHX SJ721 Guide Train ?

Mike, I build all of my drop shot rods with 4.0 mm runners and have not had a problem. If you are going to use a top shot of floro or mono with braid, I would recommend no smaller runners than a 5 mm to allow a knot to pass through the runners. IMHO. Any time that a line needs to pass knots and joints, I don't like to use runners smaller than a size 6.
Very little weight to be gained, and a great deal will be gained in the lack of frustration with the slightly larger running guides. Be safe Re: MHX SJ721 Guide Train ?

I have to agree with Don at American Tackle they are a great set of eyes if you are not using a braided line. Re: MHX SJ721 Guide Train ?
