Im wondering why I dont see poles with two butt guides say 20/6 to act as microwave guides.
does this not work. The idea of having to buy the the whole set of microwave guides just for the butt guide. Re: double butt guides / microwave

Possibly because of the added weight. Re: double butt guides / microwave

The MW guide looks weird as it is. 2 guides so close looks terrible. Re: double butt guides / microwave

The problem was in finding two guides with the proper heights to allow the second to perfectly center in the first. Not until the Pac Bay Minimas came out was I able to get the alignment correct.
At this point most would just say, "Why bother?" since you can just buy a Microwave guide. ............... Re: double butt guides / microwave

For myself I will not I don't like the runners They work and if someone wants them fine
Would be nice to just buy the butt guide and make your own set up Bill - willierods.com Re: double butt guides / microwave

Or, buy the set and throw the runners out. You aren't forced to use them and could just figure the cost of the butt guide to be the cost of the set.

I think I will chime in on this one........
Like Tom said, you are more than welcome to throw the runners out or save them for something else.....(heck, send them to me I use them all the time on other builds). The majority of the cost of the set is the stripper and transition guides. Billy says they look funny.... I thought that when I first saw them and that was a huge reason I had to try them (dare to be different). Now when I see any other guide train, they look funny. As far as using 2 guides...... Many years of testing went into the MicroWave guides to make them perfect. Not only is it a 20 and a 6 guide but it is the proper height, the proper distance between the rings, a small foot print vs. using 2 guides, ring lock frame.... the list goes on. Don't forget the transition guide.... that little sucker was also extensively tested for proper height and size and the perfect distance from the stripper. Back to the runners..... you will notice when you look at them that they are not a normal guide. They were specifically designed for the set. The are a snagless ring lock guide that performs very very well. In closing Larry..... you are not buying the set for just the stripper guide.... you are buying an extensively tested, painstakingly designed system. On a personal note..... If you have not used the MicroWave guides before I feel you are missing out. MicroWave guides are becoming mainstream very quickly, they are starting to show up a lot of the "big brand" rods and the list is growing daily. On the more than 500 rods that I have personally built using the ONLY AWARD WINNING GUIDE SYSTEM.... I have not had a single complaint, although I have had a lot of repeat customers......... _______________________________ God Bless, Don Morse 800-516-1750 ext. 1207 / don@americantackle.us Rod Building..... Or just go with the single butt guide With guides of taller frames the pigtails can be controlled faster Bill - willierods.com Re: double butt guides / microwave

Quite contrary to what the renowned Mr V gave you as his opinion, putting two guides together to make a MW stripper is very 'custom' and very handsome. Works wonderfully and allows you to do custom inlay. And when you are done and it all works perfectly. You realize and take pride that it is one more thing on that fishing stick that was NOT made/done by a machine! Re: double butt guides / microwave

NOT joking at all Bill. I pride myself in doing them. Loved them from the first day Tom posted the idea/picture. Took me a little time to perfect the skill but I have it down nicely now and it does take my old hands about two hours to prep and tie in. My customers love them. Coming from someone as creative and free-spirited as Mr V, I was rather shocked at his opinion. Re: double butt guides / microwave

I'm not sure the exact date when I posted the original photo of the two guides used that way, but it predated the Microwave guide by a good bit, I think. It should still be in the photo page database if anybody wants to dig back deep enough to find it. What Steve posted is pretty much the same thing. As far as what looks better, that's subjective and to each his own.

Don
If the double guide gets damaged can one return it (proof a complete set was purchased) and pay for a replacement or does one get stuck and have to buy the complete set. John Re: double butt guides / microwave

John, we do have a warranty process set up to handle the very few MicroWave breakages that do occur. _______________________________ God Bless, Don Morse 800-516-1750 ext. 1207 / don@americantackle.us Rod Building..... It's What We Do. Re: double butt guides / microwave

Sorry Steve, it looks bad with 2 guides that close, especially since they don't match. When TOm posted his original photo is looked just as bad. I don't know what to say, some things look appealing, that does not. Whatever, people aren't going to like it but it looks like one guide is humping the otehr, the difference with me and everyoen else is I'm stupid enough to say what most people are thinking.
Amtak has spend a lot of time and money building up teh brand. YOu guys trying to do stuff you're one way...how many rods are you building set up teh way you set them up/ IMO, rodbuilders outthink themselves, instead of cashing in on teh marketting and promotion that Amtak has done with this system, they think they are gonna be smarter and prove they can do what Amtak has done and save $5, but then have to explain why. Amtak did it all already for you. Bill, I dont' know where you are buying guides from but a set of MW's is $33 for Duralites, $42 for nano. If you are paying tax you're ordereing form the wrong place. I have no idea why people don't likethe running guides, it's a frigging guide you guys are capable of finding ways to have an issue with everything.
