fly guide size and spacing

Hi!

I would like to ask if I choose different guide sizes than the blank manufacturer's recommandation, do I need to modify the spacing.
I have a few guides at home, and I would be happy to use them at my rodbuilding project, but these guides are one or two number bigger then the recommanded. Does it modify seriously the stress on the blank, and should I stick to the recommanded sizes?

Thank you for your answers!

It adds unnecessary weight, which slows the reaction and recovery speed of the rod. But they'll work, just maybe not quite as well as if you went with the proper sizes. The proper sizes, of course, are the smallest and lightest that will pass your line and any connections while still holding up to the task at hand.

What Tom said.
A sensitive hand WILL feel the difference - especially if you choose heavy chromed guides and the blank has a light-line rating. i.e. You may not feel the excess weight on a #10 rod as much as on a #5 rod.

My opinion - save the larger guides for a heavier blank.

Dang near any spacing and guide choice will "work" in some way. I tend to trust the company which sells the blanks for information about which guides and what spacing will work best on their product. I wouldn't risk ten bucks and five hours of labor to save a dime.

If your line - loops - knots will pass thought the smaller guides Why would you want to add more weight with larger guides
Did some one tell you larger guides are better ???

I have had some requests for larger striping guide some feel it gives them a better shoot when casting. I don't feel the larger guide on the butt effects the performance that much, Myself I am for the smaller guides.
