Newbie-tip top question

Guys, I am building my first rod and i need some advice. The rod is a Rainshadow RX8, 7 weight and the stated tip top size is a 5. However, the tip diameter of the rod is considerably smaller than the inside diameter of the tip top, making for a sloppy fit. According to the Mudhole website, this is the smallest tip size they offer in Fuji Alconite. Do I look elsewhere for a smaller tip, or can I do a threadwrap on the rod tip and then fit the tip top over that? Thanks for the help! Bill Re: Newbie-tip top question

You can do a spiral thread wrap if the gap isn't too large. However, I would look for a tip top that fit better. Re: Newbie-tip top question

Angler's Workshop (link on left) has Alconite tip-tops (BFAT series) down to size 4. This is for ring sizes 6 and 7 mm. For ring size 8 mm. they only go down to 5. Re: Newbie-tip top question

Do a quick thread warp and fill the rest in with 5 minute epoxy. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
