Removing Fuji DPSM bottom hood

Has anyone had any luck removing the bottom hood on the fuji DPSM seats? If so, what did you do? I've tried boiling the seats, but I haven't had any luck removing it. I'm trying to remove it so I can paint the seat and then put it back on.
Thanks for the help.

Tape the hood and then paint the seat.

The hood sort of locks in place with a tab that fits in the slot on the back of the seat. Boiling isn't going to do you any good. You have to use very firm thumb pressure to rock the hood loose on one side and then you can use a screwdriver, careful not to mar the edge of the metal hood piece, to pop the hood free. The smaller seats are more difficult to do this on than the larger ones.

I did an article in the magazine on separating these pieces for use on one-piece acrylic seats a few years ago. I may have photographed the process for that article but honestly don't recall if I did or not at this point.

Tom,
Would you happen to know which volume of the magazine that the article was posted in?

Thanks,

I'll have to go back through a few year's worth of issues to find it. It seems recent but time flies, I'll almost bet it's been 3 or 4 years ago now.

get some Pinstriping Tape from a Auto Suppliy store it is more flexible and takes a hard corner better Also will not let any finish seep under it A heck of a lot easer then what you plan to do -- Up to you

Tom,

No worries, was just wondering if you happened to recall it off of the top of your head. I've got a snow day today so I will flip through past issues. I believe that I've got back to something like 2005 so I should be able to come up with it. If I don't find it, I will drop you a line.

Thanks,
Tom

Thanks for the info. The way I prime, dip, and clear coat, taping wasn't feasible. I was able to pop them off. Took a tight grip on it, and slammed it down on the wooden floor (had a rug in between floor and seat). It popped right off.
