Does anyone know of a relatively fast action 3 piece 6' 6" spinning blank in a medium light or medium action? I've got a canoe trip up north this summer and will be targeting smallmouth and would like a decent travel rod in case conditions don't allow me to use my fly rods. Again thank you for your input. Hello Rob,
I'm not aware of a 3 piece 6'6" travel blank for spinning, but you might want to include some of the multiple piece fly rod blanks in your search. I have built ultralight spinning rods on such blanks, and in the right actions they perform very well. -chad Re: 3 piece 6' 6" spinning blank suggestions

Bill,
that SB781-3 looks just what I needed. I looked at the Batson catalog but obviously I over looked these blanks. Thanks again. And Chad, thanks for the suggestion, I too have used multi piece fly rod blanks before but generally only as a last resort if I couldn't find something already available that met my criteria, as for me it was always a hit or miss unless I already owned the fly blank. I have built two spinning rods using the SB781-3 6-12lb as listed above. I have found it to be an excellent quality and excellent value blank. I live in Australia and am not familiar with smallmouth, however I can say that this blank is heavier than what I would use for freshwater trout. It is a fast action and fast tapered blank, with a powerful butt section, but has quite a light tip and can cast quite small lures.
I purchased these blanks and others from Utmost Enterprises (at the left of this page) and they give 25% discount off RRP to most retail customers. Their customer service is also excellent. Re: 3 piece 6' 6" spinning blank suggestions

St Croix's 2S66MLF-3 is my pick. I've had one for years and have used it for anything from local fishing for smallmouth to big trout in WY. It can handle some big fish!

My mistake, looks like that blank isn't available anymore.
