Hello, new poster but longtime reader on this site. I'm looking to Build a musky rod. I need it to be two pieces for transporting. The only blanks i found we're st. Croix ones. I'll be mainly casting bucktails. I was wondering if I missed any during my search. Also what kind of guides should I look at for this heavy of a rod. Thank you in advance for your help.

Mike Fuji Alconite guides will be perfect for that rod. High quality, not too expensive and won't groove even while using a braided line.

Thanks Buzz any blank ideas? Would tuna popping blanks work or would the action be too slow? Re: Musky Rod building ?s

In addition to Buzzes comments on using the Alconite guides - many folks will use a silicon carbide tip due to the heavy lures being thrown frequently.
Thorne Brothers in Fridley, MN - carries their own line of Musky rods - based on the St. Croix blanks. However, they do have unique actions. Be safe Re: Musky Rod building ?s

If your into the long rods and not throwing only heavy stuff, the Lamiglas GLB108-2MH. 9 ft., 2 pc., also makes a great X-
heavy Alaska salmon rod, etc. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/29/2014 10:58PM by Spencer Phipps. Re: Musky Rod building ?s
