Finishing a painted blank

Ok - I have a blank I have painted with krylon fusion -

The finish is not as smooth as the rods come from the factory. I have ordered some permagloss to coat it but after searching it looks like the permagloss may not be the way to go.

I remember an article in rod builder showing a way to apply it using a pvc cap and some foam to coat the blank with. Just wondering if I need to go another route so I don't melt the paint. Any other suggestions on a good smooth finish?

I am building this for a younger kid so weight isn't really an issue since they just wanted a rod to match dad's white one.

Chris,

If you go with the Perma Gloss I would recommend you try a test of the Perma Gloss being applied over the Krylon Fusion. They may not be compatible. Perma Gloss is pretty hot, but dries quickly.

Being in the South I imagine it will dry very quick if I have read that hummidity aids in this.

Chris,

Yes high humidity will cause the Perma Gloss to dry quicker. Just make sure you do a test of the application of Perma Gloss over the Krylon. The Perma gloss may cause the Krylon to wrinkle or bubble. I have not tried putting Perma Gloss over Krylon. I know Epoxy will go over Perma Gloss without a problem as long as the Perma Gloss had dried overnight. I usually apply a couple of coats of Perma Gloss to my guide wraps and let them dry overnight and then apply the epoxy and they come out fantastic.
