Hello,
I have an interesting request for an ultralight hand pole similar to the thin-walled telescopic store models used for panfish. He prefers it to be 7' one piece, but I am not sure there is anything like that out there available? I have looked at many ultralight blanks and can't seem to find one that would justify use as a hand pole given their cost. My next thought was to use the tip section of a two-piece 14' float rod, but have no idea where to start looking, or even if there is a market for custom hand poles? Any info or experiences on this topic is appreciated. -chad Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/29/2014 01:30AM by Chad Barlongo. Re: Blank For a One-Piece Hand Pole?

Hello,
Hand pole in this case is referring to those bamboo, fiberglass, or composite poles used for still fishing. They can be either one-piece or come in multiple sections. Hook and line is tied directly to the tip and fished that way without use of a reel or rod guides. I suppose they are more commonly called "panfish, crappie, and bream poles". Maybe one of batsons spg fiberglass blanks or a rx6 sb blank. The trouble with looking at ultralite will be with lifting power.imo

Look at the Batson "SPG" Fibreglass series;
[www.schneidersrods.com] Or, the Batson Trolling/Live Bait series, "RDR", the "L" or "ML" have nice soft glass tips with graphite backbone; [www.schneidersrods.com] Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: Blank For a One-Piece Hand Pole? Well the MHX PF1442ML-MHX would get you to 6 foot for around $30. The Pac Bay T2SP780 in the tradition II series will get you to 6'6" in the right line size for the mid $30 range. Years ago i picked up a couple blanks like your asking for from Anglers Workshop. They had them in a sale bin of fly rod seconds. They were not listed on the web. Other folks may have something similar.

Hello,
Thank you all very much for your responses and e-mail. I will have a look at the blanks you folks suggested. For anyone curious, the blank will be used specifically to fish for a type of juvenile salt-water goatfish called oama, (o-wa'-ma), that schools nearshore during the summer months. These little guys are about the size of a sardine or smaller and popular here as a bait fish or for eating. Our minimum legal throw net mesh size is 2" stretched, much too large for these goatfish, so a light, sensitive, hand pole and 1-2lb. test line is the method most commonly used. -chad Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
