Hi guys,
I'm just getting into rod building and am wondering what's the difference in blanks between mag taper, spin jig and spinning? They all say that the action is fast or thereabouts so what's the main differences between them? Thanks Re: Mag taper, spin jig or spinning

Often, there is no difference. Many times the same blank is offered under several catagories and listed under different numbers. Other times, however, they are indeed slightly different blanks.
Mag tapers generally represent a high ratio of power difference between butt and tip. Spin jig somewhat the same, but not to as great an extent. Regular spinning blanks even less. So how do you tell? Ask the manufacturer for starters. Beyond that, look at the difference in butt and tip diameters of each respective blank. Although that won't tell the whole story owing to different materials, etc., it will help you determine which is truly faster (CCS numbers would be a big help here) which has more/less power in regards to butt and tip areas. .............. At the extreme end of blank tapers is the "hot shot" blank, which can be built into a powerful and smooth-casting 11wt. or 12wt. fly rod. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
