Misinformation. Not once has their been any data or facts presented on the side of rod spine importance.
It's trumped by the lever arm effect of the guides. It puts the blank's least amount of deadlift capacity on that particular lifting orientation. It does not cause nor cure rod twist. No one can fish or cast on a single axis to begin with. It has no practical effect on anything. If rod spine was as important as some would have you believe, then building off the spine should/would result in some sort of bad consequences. That hasn't ever happened. ........... By the way, I find that if I find the spine of the rod; it generally is the same as the straightest axis.
So, I quickly find the straightest axis, and then I check that point to see if the spine falls on the same point. Generally it is the same or close to the same. I still build on the straightest axis, but I do check for the spine as a point of peace of mind. Be safe Re: How to find the spine?

I don't think I have ever seen a blank where the spine and the straightest axis are one and the same. It can happen of course, but I'd say it's pretty rare.
