On lighter freshwater bass rods, I was wondering how many people put a decorative butt wrap. I always try to keep mine as light as possible and only did one on a moving bait rod (crankbait). I know a rod it's at it's most sensitive state when it's a bare blank. I was just wondering when putting say a 6_8"inch wrap how much am I taking away from sensitivity? Re: butt wraps on lighter rods

The weight of the thread/finish in close proximity to the handle won't have as much an effect as something further out on the blank. if your really concerned about it, try a simple open wrap which has a lot less thread than a closed wrap. Circumfrentially speaking, there is a lot less thread and finish on a small diameter graphite rod than a larger diameter blank used for other purposes. Re: butt wraps on lighter rods

Yes it does affect the sensitivity of the rod and cause some reduction in overall performance. However, we'd be talking such a small amount that it's highly doubtful that the human hand would be hard pressed to discern it. If having a nice butt wrap on the rod is to your liking, do it and enjoy the rod. If you miss a fish bite, it isn't likely to be because of the butt wrap.
