I am building a rod for a good friend and he's a carpenter. I am goin to do my first wooden rod handle(fore and rear) and want to inlay a 10p nail in one of the grips. any ideas how to countersink the nail? I am goin to epoxy over everything if this is a good idea. all info is awesome.

You could trace the outline and remove the material with a dremel tool.

Assuming it's not a finishing nail, I would grind off one side of the nail head in order to keep the inlay channel from being so deep in the wood........

Hi Greg,
Sandy's point is valid. Also, if you know of sum one with a Milling machine, to do a recess, would take all of about three minutes. I am fortunate enough to have a nephew with a machine shop, he has done that job for me many times. The best part is to have a cold one with him when it is finished.
Kind regards,
Rod. Australia

Hi Greg,
The other thing you could consider, is to have a bottom layer of colour to provide a contrast to the nail.
Kind regards,
Rod, Australia.
