I have a client that wants to replace this rod. The rod is a Purist model PP 9089 9'0" #8 Fly Line. He uses it for fishing steelhead in the NE (US) as a mono-rod. This is tasking my knowledge base and I would appreciate any ideas on how to duplicate this set up.
Thanks for any assistance! Mike Mike Franklin Re: Pflueger Purist Fly Rod

Why does he want to replace it? Was the original damaged and he wants another, or does he want to replace it with something better? This is a $36 fly rod, extraordinarily inexpensive where fly rods are concerned. If he wanted to move up there are plenty of options. close your eyes and throw a dart. I found the Purist listed as IM6. Perhaps a Batson RX6 blank would work.
as for checking the CCS numbers, and i could be wrong here since it's been awhile since I've gone over the charts, i think CC'd blanks are rarely from such inexpensive full rods which are often sold as a kit with an equally inexpensive reel. Suggest to your client if he really wants the same action as a Pflueger Purist, he might be best off buying another Pflueger Purist. But it's also an opportunity to show him what is available with better components and blanks. You could spend $36 and call it R&D, then go from there if you know your fly blanks. But if he's using a cheap fly rod for non-fly fishing uses, I doubt it matters to him that much and a new rod for $36 is a no-brainer. what do you think? eric fresno, ca.
