shaping/sanding hypalon

for the most part I have mostly built on cork. gonna make a rod for myself using hypalon. only thing is that I haven't worked with it yet. the rear grip that I have is good just a lil too thick for what im looking for. what grade do I start with and finish with. I heard on here that using denim for a shine at the end works well. how far does hypalon expand? im using u-40 just wondering how much this makes it slide.

I prefer Drywall sanding screen to sandpaper for shaping foam grips. The rubber comes through the holes and doesn't load up like sandpaper does. If I have a lot to remove, I will start with medium and then fine for final shaping. I prefer to glue my grips on and then shape them to final size in place. Wet Denim to polish.

I do use the same method as Fred except I use Acetone to polish .Just be careful when using the sanding screen as It really rips the hypalon down & if possible use a Vac Cleaner as you sand to keep the dust down. Also a good idea to use some sort of breathing filter

Saw a you tube video of a guy using a regular 2 bladed disposable razor to shape it to size and then smoothed it out with 300/400 grit sand paper. Worked real nice/fast to get it
shaped before final finishing. On hypalon only. Probably wouldn't use on EVA as drywall screen works better.
