Hello, I'm a novice at this art and have been practing a lot of guide wraps, diamond wraps, and various chevron wraps. I always like to include metallic thread for flare. The problem I have is when I wrap over the metallic tag end with nylon (regular prowrap size A so far) the tag leaves a noticeable bump. Burnishing doesn't seem to help. How do you experts flatten the metallic or hide it??

After the first coat of finish is dry, trim off the nubs with a single edge razor blade.

J.B., I don't understand. The metallic tag ends are covered with regular nylon thread, and create a hump in the nylon thread.

The one thing I do is get my burnishing tool and press on it It will go down some Completely ???

suspect you are wrapping with too much tension - try a bit looser, burnish and see if it helps.

I agree, Bill. In my experience, I've never been able to remove them or avoid them. Other than keeping the length of them to a minimum which will ensure the wrap won't come undone. I think they will always be visible with metallic or regular thread. They will not leave an actual bump with the normal level of finish, but they will be visible. At least that's my experience.

I consider it a characteristic of hand craftsmanship... If I can get a smooth finish over it ... I'm happy, and never had a complaint. (assuming you mean the lock wrap hump and not a bunch of fussy stuff showing through).

Correct, just a lock wrap hump. No fuzzies. Epoxy comes out smooth and level. I will try less tension, but the metallic tends to slide out of the locking wrap easy.

With the lock wrap, you have two layers of thread, no way it isn't going to be thicker than one layer!

Sorry, misunderstood the question. Burnish as Bill said and finish. I never have a problem with it. Two coats of finish will make it hardly noticeable.
