tuna chord wrapped grip

Good morning. I'm brand new to this board and am excited to participate where I can. Reading all of the insight everyone has already provided has been eye-opening. Thank you.
I'm building a 6' gaff for a friend. I wrapped the upper and lower grisp with tuna chord and ended each grip with a turk's head knot. My question is whether anyone here has done that before and if they've put epoxy underneath the wrap to hold it in place and prevent it from unwinding. I have to assume that a lot of force and torque will potentially be exerted onto the grip causing to unwind or loosen. It wasn't until after I finished wrapping it that I thought of putting epoxy underneath. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I've done it a couple of ways - the fastest and easiest is to do your wrap, then spray it with a marine varnish - like Minwax Helmsman and let it dry - that will provide some protection and a little bit of adhesion.

these days I prefer scuff the blank, wrap the tuna cord, then thin some West System Epoxy (Not Rod Finish) 5 to 1 with acetone - I coat the entire grip with the thinned epoxy. The epoxy fils any gaps, provides some additional adhesion and protection for the wrap. I turn the gaff in my dryer until the epoxy has set to avoid runs or drips. It is surprising how much epoxy wil be absorbed by the cord, so it does add some weight... Just something to think about.

i have used nylon cord and taken regular rod bond mixed and wiped it on the area Wrapped over and the rod bond gives time to tighten up the cord
Then as above added matalic thread in between the cord and coated

I have done this a number of times, but after wrapped, I saturate the cord with Perma Gloss.
