i have a old rod, made from 2pcs blank(butt joint)
length 6ft.(4ft top section and 2ft butt section) line rating PE#6(+/- 60lbs) action medium hard it's vertical jigging spinning rod i want to rebuild it and convert to short spiral overhead stick, i'll only used the top section from this old rod my 'comfort reel seat zone' are about 50cm from butt with additional 15cm more for foregrip. so 65cm in total for handle area and less than 2ft(55cm) for top section is it possible the rod will be functional? i know this will become slow action rod so I planning to made split grip. so the handle area can easily bent if needed additional info : it will be fished with similar avet MX size reel and 200gr metal jig thanks in advance Re: handle length proportion on short jig stick?

Ernest,
Of course, the rod will work very well. Several years ago, I worked with a group of avid fishermen who wanted a very short rod for their fishing needs. I left the grips, and reel seat the same as I would have for a longer rod, as in your case. Then, I simply spaced the guides down the rod in a conventional manner. For your particular guide I suspect that you will be using either 3 or 4 guides. Just do some testing where you put 50 lbs of weight on the end of the line to simulate a big fish and insure that you have guides in the correct position to properly load the rod. Be safe Re: handle length proportion on short jig stick?
