In need a blank to perform as described below.
I have a friend that charters on the Delaware bay. He primarily fishes for flounder. every now and again hooking up a 20lb. rock fish, customers have a tendency to break rods ment for flounder. What he is looking for is a rod that can give the customer a fun fight with the flounder but be able to handel the 20lb,er without breakage. I inland fish, fly, just got into bass a few years back, I don't know much about the other. Thank you much for all your help. Curt Re: Inshore rod blank

That's a tall order - a rod meant to excel at two different tasks. I'd look for some sort of glass/carbon composite, or even all glass.

Fish don't break rods, fishermen do. I'd say go with an ugly stick. Maybe the Mudhole above is a tough rod, but I know ugly sticks can take the abuse. If I were in the charter business I wouldn't even consider having custom rods built for my business. Re: Inshore rod blank

I can go w/ the idea of a forgiving glass/carbon composite blank, but an off the rack Ugly Stick...surely, we as rodbuilders can offer some improvements over that. Re: Inshore rod blank

Look at glass / glass composite blanks - those that manufacturers call "live bait blanks" are a good option. Another really good option are Calstar blanks like the 196 series blanks - very fast taper thin tips. Re: Inshore rod blank

People on charter and party boats don't take care of equipment like the people that own it. The mud hole value eglass that kevin post would be a good blank or a soild glass like tom said..I repair a lot of rods for a fleet of party boats that fish the delaware bay out of Lewes delaware . Hello Guy's.
There is nothing wrong with the Ugly Stick blank it's the set-up, with a good set of guides put on right the Ugly Stick would be a good Strong Rod, and if you take it one step further and re-do the handle and seat too(make it lighter) you would have a light responsive rod compared to what you started with and it would be as good as any other Glass rod. I have a few of the old blanks and they build pretty good. Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Inshore rod blank

Hi Curtis
I have built several conventional rods with crb IS70H blanks and have been very pleased with the results . I have caught small porgies to a 58lb black drum on these setups. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
